Frequently Asked Questions
What does this tool check?
It checks the format of your address: that all fields are filled in, the street starts with a house number and includes a street name, the state is a valid 2-letter code, and the ZIP is 5 digits (or 5+4).
Is this official USPS address verification?
No. This is a format check that runs on this site. Official USPS verification — confirming the address actually exists in postal data — needs their system.
Why must the street start with a number?
USPS delivery addresses begin with a house or building number (for example, “123 Main St”). A street name without a number can’t receive mail delivery.
My address passes but mail still bounces — why?
Format is only the first step. The address must also exist in USPS data with the correct ZIP+4. If mail bounces, double-check the street name spelling and the ZIP code, or verify it on usps.com.
